About Palila
„Finest classic indie rock“ - Rolling Stone Magazine.
Palila succeed in avoiding redundancy and deliver timeless indie rock music that finds its way straight to your heart. While listening to this timeless, honest and touching music, it is best to do the only right thing here: Letting go. Let it flow. Sometimes that’s difficult – especially these days. But this music is about attitude. It’s about honesty. The outcome varies from walls of sound like the early The Smashing Pumpkins, fuzzy guitars as in Dinosaur Jr. and unexpected melodic coolness of Built To Spill. Again and again it’s about writing songs. Great songs.
Palila was formed in April 2019 by Matthias Schwettmann (vocals, guitars; see also Would & Hell and High Water). Christoph Kirchner (bass, backing vocals) joined from the very beginning. Manuel Tröndle (ex-Bikini Beach) played drums on the first two EPs "Are We Happy Now?" (2019) and “Tomorrow I'll Come Visit You and Return Your Records" (2020). The band released both their EPs as a double EP on vinyl in October 2020 via Kapitän Platte. In early 2021 Sascha Krüger became the new drummer of the band and they released their debut “Rock'n'Roll Sadness” in November 2021.
In 2022 Palila was signed by DevilDuck Records and the band played their 1st club tour. In 2023 they released their second album “Mind my Mind" - accompanied by live shows and festival appearances (e.g. Orange Blossom Special).
