About Sameka

Sameka is a young and exciting jazz-rock band from Germany that was founded in 2019. Led by their bass player, Simon Zauels, the quintet´s music is characterized by an interesting combination of electric and acoustic instruments that create a unique and captivating sound.

In 2021 the band received a scholarship, with the assistance of this scholarship and guest Oud player Hesham Hamra, Sameka recorded their debut album „Introducing Sameka“, featuring original compositions, for Mons Records. "Jazz in Europe" praised the debut for its combination of deep respect for tradition and high levels of originality. As finalists of the Future Sounds Contest, Sameka performed at the Leverkusener Jazztage in the fall of 2022.

In March of the following year, Sameka embarked on their first international tour, taking them to Taiwan to share their music with a new audience. On July 14, 2023, the quintet graced the stage at the renowned Jazzopen Festival in Stuttgart, Germany.

Entering the new year, Sameka forged a new partnership with Timezone Records and is delighted to release their second album under this prestigious label. Titled "Sameka & Strings – Merlins Reise," the album is set to be unveiled on May 31, 2024. Promising a unique fusion of soundscapes, the album features a string quartet and once again highlights the talents of Oud player Hesham Hamra.

To celebrate the album's release, the band will embark on an exclusive Album Release Tour in Taiwan in March. This presents fans with the opportunity to experience the melodies of "Merlins Reise" live before the album hits the shelves.
