About The Opalites

The Opalites was started by Jeremy Nelson (lead vocalist and rhythm guitar). He started the band with the intention to make traditional 1960 Jamaican Rocksteady music, the secular older brother to Reggae. Influenced by American R&B. Jeremy started listening to third wave Ska/Punk music in middle school. His attention was directed to the roots of 1960s Jamaican music after hearing The Slackers in high school. He thought "Wow! this is Ska? But smoother, with a groove, and it doesn't sound like circus music. You can dance with a girl to this, instead of knocking someone over in a mosh pit." The Opalites has had many line up changes since 2014. The current lineup of: Mac Mills (Bass and backing vocals), David Dunn (Lead Guitar and vocals), and Rob Costie (Drums and backing vocals) has helped the band reach that goal of playing Jamaican R&B that Jeremy set out year's ago to create.
