About Jia

Jia is a Taiwanese-Canadian indie/alternative artist and singer-songwriter from Burnaby, BC. Her music is a seamless blend of dark western, earthy americana, dream pop and indie rock, inspired by her love for Tarantino films. Her debut EP, "The Melting of the Moon," was recorded at Monarch Studios with City and Colour's band and released on June 28th, 2023. Darryl from the Tinnitist writes, "Her masterful marriage of nostalgic styles, sounds, influences and archetypes are seamlessly smeared all together into woozy, seductive tales of obsession, desertion, and heartbreak— while hinting at events and motives that are far more malevolent and mysterious." Her work interrogates lived experience and emotions, and opens doors for listeners to process their own forgotten feelings. She is heavily influenced by artists such as Nancy Sinatra, Alexandra Savior, The Last Shadow Puppets and David Bowie, as well as the films and soundtracks of Quentin Tarantino, most notably the Kill Bill films.
