About Shift Meal

Shift Meal is a punk/emo duo based out of Baltimore Maryland. Jake (Guitar and Vocals) and Jonah (drums) crossed paths as coworkers at a café in the revolving door of the restaurant industry. What started as a shared love of old games and anime soon became a close friendship that can be heard in their lyrics and felt at their shows. Shift Meal formed in Jonah's basement in early 2022 when Jonah offered to help record drums for a solo project Jake was working on. After jamming and writing some songs, they started playing shows anywhere from basements to their friends' porches. Their songs fuse a storytelling lyricism influenced by artists like John Prine or Jim Croce, framed in the music and context of modern emo/punk culture reminiscent of bands like The Front Bottoms, Macseal, or Modern Baseball. Their emotional storytelling and honest slice of life poeticism make them something to vibe to in your bedroom; but the hard hitting drums, distorted guitar, gang vocals, and poppy choruses will make you want to crank them at full blast on late nights in the car. With such a full sound, it’s easy to forget Shift Meal is just 2 ADHD riddled adults wailing on their instruments. They deliver jams about mental health, self medication, relationships and being broke with a dynamic and rhythmic depth to keep you listening. Shift Meal, despite their name, is not on break, and they’re working hard in your headphones and on stage to make you glad you’re sad.
