About Sebastian Baumgartner

Sebastian Baumgartner is a German drummer, percussionist and composer. Born in Passau, Germany he currently lives in Austria. After studying classical percussion at the Berufsfachschule für Musik Plattling, he studied jazz drumset and instrumental pedagogy at the Kunstuniversität Graz.
Sebastian studied with John Riley, Ari Hoenig, Gregory Hutchinson, Chris Smith, Howard Curtis, Herbert Pirker and Christian Lillinger, among others.

He is considered one of the most promising young drummers in the field of hard/post bop as well as free jazz and contemporary music, and has worked with Kirk Lightsey, Jim Rotondi, Luis Bonilla, Dena DeRose, Heinrich von Kalnein, John Beasly, Phil Robson, Vid Jamnik, Silke Eberhard, Sebastian Scobel, Hanno Busch, Gina Schwarz, Alois Eberl, Carole Alston, Jan Korinek, the JM Jazz World Orchestra and the Studio Percussion Ensemble Graz.

Concerts and tours have taken him to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Japan; he has played at renowned festivals such as the
Jazz is Back - Boško Petrović Festival, the Inntöne Jazzfest or the European Weeks for Contemporary Music.

Sebastian is a multiple national prize winner at the German chamber music competition "Jugend Musiziert" and a scholarship award winner of the Hildegard Schmalzl Music Foundation Regensburg.
