About Mica Sefia

Originally from Liverpool, but now based and immersed in the music sphere in Leeds, Mica Sefia endorses the interpretive nature of music as an art to be studied and related to by the public. After writing poetry when she was younger, Mica realised that she had a talent for composition. Finding a sense of accomplishment in her aptitude for it, and despite not being particularly academic in school, attending music college only furthered Mica’s interest as she continued to write her own songs.

Having the chance to meet musicians who could share their experiences on the side also influenced Mica’s own exploration of self-expression, and solidified her passion in the production of a timeless and authentic style of music. Preferring to keep her lyricisms and narrative open to interpretation, Mica relates to a balanced approach to songwriting, in which her music remains subjective, but retains its emotive sensitivity. Mica finds that the
more empowering songs from the likes of Alabama Shakes, Ayoni & Jennifer Hudson are the most moving to her in their layered and precise sound. Her own taste in music extends to Neo-soul and Alt-Rock.

Mica’s versatility and arrangement skills have led to successful collaborations across different styles and genres with a number of artists. She has contributed her vocals to several projects in the last couple of years, including underground UK hip-hop acts, Yusuf Yellow and Graft. She’s also consistently contributed to soul-crossover act, August Charles, as well as writing with fellow Leeds global soul-fusion act, Kindelan.

A confident yet powerful stage presence ensured Mica’s performative success throughout the summer of 2022, which saw her playing live at the ‘We Out Here Festival’, Last Time Out’, and ‘Live at Leeds’. and she supported the likes of Jasmine Oakley, Yakul & Haggis Horns.

After years of writing & recording, she’s now looking ahead to the release of a few new singles all throughout this year! She will also be headlining at her single release show at The Wardrobe Leeds, 25th March 2023!
