About Kitchen Knives
On December 31st, 2019, Ben Mitchell dreamt up Kitchen Knives in the Chimes Taproom bathroom in Covington, Louisiana. The project was originally meant to be a blend of metal, electronic, rap, and noise rock.
After making a few demos that never got finished and released, a cover of Radiohead’s Idioteque was posted on Instagram and Youtube only, due to copyright restrictions. After the first cover of Idioteque, the project was left behind.
Between 2020 and 2022, Ben was drawn to more abnormal and niche genres of music. Shoegaze and post-rock left huge impacts. Bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ringo Deathstarr, Explosions In The Sky, Blonde Redhead, The Black Heart Death Cult, and so many more inspired the first official Kitchen Knives release, Blood Moon.
Blood Moon was written in May of 2022 as a demo to try out the shoegaze sound. But after receiving positive feedback, it was polished and finally released in December. The new version of the Idioteque cover soon followed.
Not long after the two singles were released, the band began to form. Ben recruited bassist Aiden Boger—who played with Ben and Austin James in the summer of 2022–drummer Nick Williford, guitarist Indy Rench, and keyboardist Sam Borgfeld.
With the full band in place, Kitchen Knives is currently writing new music and a full setlist to perform in 2023.
