About pocketwatch.music

Pocketwatch [styled pocketwatch] are a new, young high energy three-piece original rock band from Sydney’s south and inner south-west.

Formed in 2021 by singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Angus [19], pocketwatch grew out of a rock band program at their local high school, Marist CC Penshurst. Angus had been playing with drummer, Sam [16] for a couple of years including a high-profile showcase covering silverchair’s “Tomorrow” in front of 500 people at Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club in Sydney.

Upon securing a gig at Sydney’s Marrickville Bowling Club supporting Simon Chainsaw and Jupiter 5, the band recruited bassist Jamie Woodward [also 16] another MCCP alumni and pocketwatch was born.

Despite a COVID enforced stop-start early period, the band has gone on to support bands such as Leadfinger, Sonic Garage and most recently were selected to open for legendary punk veterans X in front of a full house in what has become familiar territory at the Marrickville Bowlo.

From the outset, the band has taken audiences by surprise with high energy live performances, original songs with pop hooks and heavy riffage that wears their influences on their sleeves such as Nirvana, silverchair, You Am I, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Sunnyboys and the legendary Eastern
Dark.

In July 2021, the band’s demo “See You Someday” topped the Triple J Unearthed punk charts for a week, drawing airplay on community radio and attention from respected sources.
A live video of their cover of The Eastern Dark’s “Johnny & Dee Dee” went viral with over 2,000 views in a couple of days, even drawing comment from the band’s bassist Bill Gibson, “These kids are damn good”.

Despite their youthful appearance pocketwatch are already developing a reputation for being a hardworking and formidable live proposition who insist they are here for the long haul.

Currently the band are in the studio to recording their debut EP. The band has a huge tranche of original material in their back pocket and a burning desire to be as good as they can be, hoping to emulate the work ethic of Australia’s finest rock acts and to keep the flame burning bright into the future.
