About Cloud Cover - The Music of Kathy Geary

Writing and performing my own music is the most meaningful thing I have ever done and I want to share that with the world. My original music is inspired by the works of Joni Mitchell.

I have always known who I am and why I was born. I am a musician. From my earliest memories I have been captivated and fascinated by melody, harmony and rhythm. When I was nine years old I started to study piano and once I heard Bach I stopped composing my own music and started to live in the music of other composers, Beethoven, Debussy... I learned to play guitar from the Beatles. I found opera when I was a young woman and it gave me a new level of commitment to music. And Joni Mitchell has been there all my life from the first songs I heard in 1969 through this moment. For me she is the equal of Brahms, Schumann, all the great art song composers; the equal of Bob Dylan, John Lennon in rock culture and as a poet and a painter she’s on a par with Picasso.
