About Chieffy

Cheiffy is an Afro - Indigenous Hip Hop artist hailing from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia,
whose music explores the topics of race, poverty, mental health, and spiritual growth. Sonically
his music lives in the traditions of hip hop blues and rock and roll his music is a unique blend of
boom bap, trap, and abstract hip hop. Cheiffy is known for a laid-back delivery allowing his lyrics
to sink in and be digested by the listener, while also having an ear for melody and a taste for
hooks. At just 20 years old, Cheiffy has a formidable resume already, cutting his teeth in the hip
hop collective The Darkside Connection with several other Dartmouth MCs and releasing a self
recorded, funded and produced album called The Purple Tape. After this, he would step out on
his own to release several projects, each seeing him develop his own particular voice and
sound palate. He delves deep into the psyche of a young black indigenous man growing up in
North End Dartmouth, the social pressures and societal expectations he faces on a day-to-day
basis and the unique relationships he has with people of different walks of life, including that of
his family. His story is one of breaking the cycle, self reflection and exploration, whether that be
in the form of a mushroom trip at a house party, or examining the decisions made by those
before him and choosing to forge his own way into life.
Cheiffy provides a fresh and relatable voice for Nova Scotian hip hop, proudly wearing
his city on his back and often writing lyrics to show love to Dartmouth throughout his music.
Formerly a B Boy of the Only In Dartmouth Crew, hip hop is a lifestyle and tradition he treats
with reverence while allowing it to stay new, continue growing, and not become derivative. He
has consistently been honing his craft over the past years through the Youth Art Connection,
and Artpreneurs, has performed at Hop Scotch, the Pavillion, Emerge Fest, and Tata Fest.
