About CIVIC TV

BLACK MOON is the debut album by CIVIC TV, the brainchild of Toronto songwriter Lowell Sostomi. The record was self-produced largely at his home studio during lockdown and succinctly captures the claustrophobic tone of our post-apocalyptic era. These ten songs oscillate between tension and euphoria, invoking all-too-familiar feelings of isolation and confusion, with an intimate atmosphere that is simultaneously high-res and lo-fi. Sostomi weaves together disparate threads to form something recognizable yet uncanny, blending the darker moments from the last four decades of pop songwriting with distinctly modern perspectives and production values - none more apparent than on singles “Anatomy Of Boredom” and “Positive Affirmation,” which recall Tears For Fears or Violator-era Depeche Mode by way of late period Nirvana and Soundgarden. CIVIC TV offers fleeting moments of solace amidst ever-looming turmoil and turbulence, providing an escape route from the haunted house that has been our reality as we narrowly evade the end times.
