About NATION ZERO

Hyper-electronic sounds to numb the soul with heavy guitars to make you feel alive. Rami Msallam’s vocals are at times digitally distorted and manipulated in an exaggerated way, at times soothing, soft and raw. Listening to Rami’s music live means perceiving a wide spectrum of frequencies and an iridescent of emotions. NATION ZERO’s sound is versatile, demanding and fresh. It contains elements of noise, experimental music, hyper-pop, techno & metal. NATION ZERO is a sonic manifesto of a personal development echoing thoughts & sounds at the world.

NATION ZERO thematizes a wide variety of topics mostly inspired by experiences and observations. What does it mean to be privileged? and how to talk about discrimination, structural racism & institutional injustice through melodies, rhythms & noise? How does AI perceive our world? And how to deliver political content through club beats? NATION ZERO is interested in starting a discourse about things we don’t like to talk about & values we think we share.

The debut single “PARTY KILLER” addresses situations at parties or aperitifs in a serious yet ironic tone where the protagonist is repeatedly forced to tell his story, which then quickly turns into a party killer. The Project NATION ZERO uses contrasts & metaphors to project conceptual ideas in a musical form. The music doesn’t necessarily use a popular structure. Instead, it’s about delivering a sharp and precise attitude to communicate a certain message to the listener. In a simple and honest way, the form of the song is born out of the musical intention; if the song needs to be loud, it’s loud and if it needs a break, it’s quiet.

Having played over 45 shows in different bands and constellations mostly in eastern Switzerland but also in Zurich, lastly performed at Zürcher Theater Spektakel & Gessnerallee, Rami Msallam has gained a lot of experience in performing live music. In 2018 he released his first album “The Exodus'' which was a personal way to process traumatic experiences of tragedy and war. Today, he composes & produces music for audio plays. After 3 years of experimentation trying to crystalize and find the sound for his continuing journey, in October 2021 Rami Msallam initiated the project “NATION ZERO” which, unlike his past music, opens up to the world and hopefully catches its attention.
