About ALI (Band)
ALI came about from the need to fill a void. Dream-ridden songwriter meeting a ragtag clump of rock devotees, seeking to elevate. What formed was an organic, clearer shape that is the ALI project.
ALI have released four singles, all of which hit #1 on the nation's top rock radio chart.
Ali Abdala has a rich backstory in Bulgaria’s indie-rock scene. His original band, Macrophone made noise by winning the Rock category at the 2017 International Songwriting Contest with “Boxer”. Ali had a bunch of collaborations with local musicians and bands, never ceasing his enthusiastic support of the less-mainstream scene.
Key collaborator on the project is Kaloyan Dimitrov. A sound designer with close to 20 years of experience in Bulgaria’s music and sound post-production society. He’s worked on countless smaller and larger audio projects for TV, music and film.
The two got connected via The Tough Cookies, the band accompanying Ali in the creative and recording process, as well as live performances. The band formed 15+ years ago as a guitar duo, then traversed a fuzzy path to a full-fledged rock band sometime in 2013. The inclusive open-door policy for new members primarily involved incoming colleagues at a software company. Today the band members include Antony Ivanov and Petar Schwartz on guitar, Orlin Stanchev on drums, Emil Dokov on vocals and Bobby Ganchev on keyboards. Ali joined as vocalist in 2015 and Kaloyan on bass guitar in 2016.
