About Little North

With their captivating cinematic sound and a warm and intense presence, Little North bonds with their audience from the very first note. The sound of the band is way bigger than their classic piano trio constellation suggests. In a melting pot of modern minimalism and Nordic jazz tradition and with an intensity that draws threads to the jazz scene of New York, Little North has what it takes to add the next exciting chapter to the history of Scandinavian jazz.

The trio's third and fourth albums 'Finding Seagulls' and 'Familiar Places' further strengthened Little North's growing position as an unavoidable name on the Danish jazz scene. The releases received a wealth of praise from reviewers domestically and abroad, a two time feature on the cover of Spotify's State of Jazz playlist, album presentation on French national Radio, France Musique as well as ‘album of the week’ on Danish National Radio P8 Jazz.

The new album 'Wide Open' is an abstract and introspective continuation of their musical narrative. On the record, the trio examines their interplay in a freer setting. The music is written and performed with openness, curiosity for the sound of the room and with a sensitivity for what the next moment may bring. With telepathic connection, Little North moves effortlessly between composition and improvisation, presenting narratives into unknown musical landscapes.

“Little North has some of the most thoughtful and joyous, exploratory yet poetically resolved piano trio music I’ve heard in some time. A terrific release.”
★★★★★ Jazz Journal (UK)

“These young players have good taste, chameleonic talent and voices of their own. Familiar Places is Little North’s fourth album in six years, further defining and investigating a sound all their own based on twisting everything around them.”
★★★★✩ DownBeat Magazine (USA)

“Enjoy it! You will not hear a more beautiful Danish jazz album this year.”
♥♥♥♥♥ Politiken (DK)

“Intricate interplay, deep grooves and delicate, mouthwatering melodies all combine with grace, subtlety and sincerity.” “...taking me back to memories of EST at their sensitive best.”
★★★★✩ - UK Vibe

“The music as a whole is beautiful, alluring, magnetic. Spherical, almost cinematic. ” ”It speaks not only to the brain, but also to the heart. Both.”
★★★★✩ GAFFA (DK)
