About Distance From Zero
Distance from Zero are a post punk duo, originally from Manchester but now based in Cumbria UK. Featuring the combined talents of Donna-Marie Stevens and SJ Collier. Both influenced by the early punk rock, post-punk, electronic, new wave and goth scene.. Also drawing on influences from the European darkwave scene and the UK dub and hip hop 90's vibe.
The album also features Collier’s former SupaJamma bandmates Stephen Wilson Jnr. Smile Like Fools / Ed Banger & the Nosebleeds / SWJ Group / Wilson / The Cornelius Crane & Dan Adams – The Cornelius Crane / Dead Captain along with The The Sun & the Moon / Music For Aborigines guitarist Andy Clegg. Wilson is also the album’s producer.
Collier previously wrote and performed with Manchester bands SupaJamma and Raindance also co-writing a few songs with Mancunian punks Dog Toffee. He and Stevens also released an electro punk album “Collateral Damage” as Johnny Come Latleys.
The musical style is primarily post punk but draws on dub, electro and 90’s Manchester indie. Previous releases have drawn several comparisons from the likes of PiL, Dub Sex, Levellers, Killing Joke, Chameleons & Gary Numan. The songs reflect observations of life over the last few decades, politics, war, corruption, austerity, personal challenges, failures & triumphs.
Releases: Pilot Error (album 2020) Collateral Damage (album 2020) What the Papers Say (3 EP's 2021) 2024: Class War, Nothing's Changed, Holding On, Alright, Save Me From Myself, Men Putting Words in the Mouths of Gods (all singles)
