About The Makings Official
The Makings are a Bristol-based alt-rock outfit, with overtones as diverse as jazz and blues, but rooted in soul and pop. With a raw, contemporary edge, brought to life by an evolving portfolio of unique compositions, The Makings offer big, brash sounds that bring something different to the Bristol music scene and beyond.
Pushing boundaries rather than being confined by them, their deep-groove sound coalesces around jazz-tinged shuffles, bluesy guitar riffs and harmonious vocal stylings, all locked together by a fluid yet rock-solid rhythm section. And this synergy fuses with raw lyricism unafraid to confront life’s darkest moments and find the light within them. This is refreshingly candid songwriting with a measured interpretation of adversity, examining its own vulnerability and finding renewed strength therein. The result is both intriguing and uplifting.
Pre-pandemic, the seven-piece wrote, recorded and released their eponymous debut EP TMKS, the beginning of a trajectory towards a powerful new sound that favours authenticity over slickness, with an elusive yet compelling appeal. During lockdown, they managed to release a further two tracks 'Black Water' and 'See Yourself'.
Delicate yet dangerous in equal measure, these two new tracks tell their own unique perspective on the darker times of life, with the promise that it’s better if we live it together.
