Strangers From Afar

Strangers From Afar is a Psychedelic Folk/Rock/Alt Country band formed in Madrid, NM in 2019 by songwriting duo Rachel Fredell & Trey Corkern. The band got its’ start in jam sessions around Madrid, learning from the plethora of talented musicians there. They worked their way into gigs at the Mineshaft Tavern and The Cowgirl in Santa Fe, ending the year with a mini-tour of Texas, Louisiana & Mississippi. They have since released their second album, "Psychedelic Chauffeur" in 2024 and added shows on the Santa Fe Plaza, Meow Wolf, Beer Creek Brewing, Rufina Taproom, Tumbleroot Distillery.

Just as they were laying down the tracks for their self-recorded “20/20 Demos” EP (released on bandcamp), the pandemic lockdown beached the band with a backlog of unfinished material, new & old. Taking advantage of the extra time at home and the poignant subject matter of the state of the world, they went to work forging their sound & songs in the pandemic fire.

The result of all that pent up creativity is the forthcoming December 1st release of the their huge 18 song debut double album, “Pause & Effect”, recorded in August at The Kitchen Sink in Santa Fe (pre-released streaming October 31st on Bandcamp). Joining forces in the studio with local musicians Lori Ottino (melodica, backing vocals), Justin Bransford (bass), the legendary Paul Pearcy (drums) and Jono Manson (guitar, banjo, mixing, mastering) the band reached full throttle.

Two album release shows are coming up this month with the full band (Erik Sawyer joins in on drums.) December 3rd at The Mineshaft Tavern (following the Madrid Christmas parade!) & December 14th at Meow Wolf as part of the “Couch of Eternal Reverb” concert series. Both shows start at 8pm. Mineshaft Tavern show is free & Meow Wolf tickets are available on the Meow Wolf website.
