About K O D A E
You’re driving down the #16 in Jasper and you’re lost in a head-nodding groove. The sun is setting throwing indigo and amber from peaks and rivers and you’re stunned by the sublimity of it all… yet your heart yearns. You wonder how you got here. You wonder how it’s all connected. You wonder where you’re going and as you imagine your mind washes away into a river of past loves, boom bap backbeats, neo soul feels and future dreams.
That’s what it’s like to listen to a K O D A E track. Their music is simultaneously Bow Valley and Modern Metropolis; Urban and Mystical; Past and Future. K O D A E write songs that melodically move like jazz ballads, but groove like slowed break beats. Yet that warm folk sound, so present in the Albertan foothills landscape they grew up in, remains strong with vocalist Annie da Silva, whose lyrical melodies take you on a heartfelt journey… Still, as Gospel musicians often tell her: “girl can sing.”
K O D A E only began their musical journey together this year, in the spring of 2019. In a weave of seemingly synchronistic events, they combined their collective experience in Jazz, RnB, Folk & Gospel together to form a creative, musically progressive Alternative RnB band. Don’t sleep on this up and coming group from Calgary: many releases to come as they continue to write their full-length album and prepare for its release and accompanying tour dates in 2020.
