About The Polyester Slackers
So, who exactly are The Polyester Slackers?
Formed in 2015, The Polyester Slackers are basically just four guys who really dig the music of the seventies and eighties.
Mari, Leigh, Greg and Jamie all grew up listening to pop-rock bands like The Cars, David Wilcox, Blondie, Cheap Trick, A Flock of Seagulls ... so many artists and so many hairstyles! Jamie (bass) and Mari (guitar) first jammed together back at #ODCVI in the eighties (that's our old high school, for you out-of-towners), while Leigh (keys) and Greg (drums) played with Mari in bands like Orange Wilma and Toolshed in the early 2000's.
"Growing up, some kids were really into groups like KISS and AC/DC, some were into Billy Joel or Joe Jackson, and others only liked hair bands," says Jamie, who admits he went through more than a few canisters of Alberto mousse back in the day. "But we liked all of it. So that's what we enjoy playing now."
"Yeah," adds Greg. "Our sets are pretty varied in terms of style, though still keeping to what we think was a sort of golden age for pop-rock."
So what's with the name?
"Well, polyester is certainly something people wore a lot of back then," says Leigh, who shares lead vocals with Jamie. "And 'slackers' means we don't take anything too seriously."
Does that mean the band's going to dress in matching leisure suits?
"Not a chance!" Mari grins. "We gotta have some standards..."
