About BG Young Romantics
Young Romantics formed in Bowling Green, KY, in early 2017 when high school friends Matt Porter (drums) and Griffin Fletcher (vocals) decided to start making music while studying at Western Kentucky University.
The duo began by recording in Porter’s car, releasing two self-produced EPs to SoundCloud between November 2017 and January 2018. The EPs heavily featured ukulele as well as lyrics rife with messages of internalized doubt and discontentedness with reality. Though just the beginning, the EPs served to refine the band’s artistry and set forth an introspective tone the band still encapsulates.
Soon gigging in coffee shops with nothing but a rented acoustic guitar, everything changed when Mitchell Manuel (guitar) came into the picture full-time around spring 2018. The band soon realized its former acoustic-dominant sound translated well to electric guitar and live drums.
With the addition of Gerek Patrick (bass) months later, Young Romantics came into its own. From in-your-face energy to deeply troubled lyricism, Young Romantics is noted for its dynamic live performances and emotional delivery.
The band began recording its debut EP, “In Case You Feel the Same,” in early 2019 and looks forward to an Aug. 30 release date, which will include six original songs.
