About Musumba
Musumba is a 16-year-old singer/songwriter from Holme Wood in Bradford, West Yorkshire, with heritage from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Writing songs and playing piano since she was a few years old, Musumba recently started composing and performing in a distinctive and unique genre, experimenting with the fusion of African rhythms, contemporary feminist lyrics, r’n’b vocals and rap.
Her first public appearance was in spring 2018 in Trafalgar Square at ‘Million Women Rising’. In November 2018 she was invited to support Brits Award and Mercury Prize nominated Kate Tempest at the Women of the World Festival in Bradford.
Musumba has released two singles this year which have been played numerous times by BBC Introducing on Radio Leeds and Radio Sheffield, by Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6 Music and by Faisal Motin on the Radio Leeds Grime Up North Mixtape.
She represented West Yorkshire at BBC Music Day and was recently invited to perform at BBC Music Introducing Live in Tobacco Dock, London - the youngest artist ever invited to perform at this annual event. Her music was broadcast across all 39 BBC local radio stations and BBC 6 Music in a special simulcast from the event introduced by Tom Robinson.
