The anonymous Canadian singer/songwriter’s project “scotch pond” is named after an actual place in Richmond, B.C. He was inspired by a true story about a German fisherman and his son befriending a group of Japanese fisherman despite differences in language and culture. This was the spark the artist behind scotch pond needed to continue perfecting and eventually release his original songs after over a decade of writing and playing music as a hobby. The debut single “This Is My Song” blends late 60’s psychedelic rock with early 2000’s alternative. Layered distorted guitars and varied percussion weave throughout the track creating tension. The singer paints a picture of being fed up with someone or something holding them back from true happiness. These emotional lyrics are a call back to brutally honest heart on your sleeve emo bands from the mid 2000’s. There are many influences that go into scotch pond, but the sound is completely unique and seamlessly mixes different genres into one memorable listening experience. Look for a debut album sometime in 2019.
