About DejaVilla
Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, DejaVilla is the artistic vision of musicians David Marston and Sarah Couch, who officially joined creative forces in 2017 after a mutual friend reintroduced them. At the core of DejaVilla’s sound is the duo’s homegrown identity: Jamaica is at the heart of everything they touch. Brooklyn-based producer/songwriter Marston crafts ethereal dance riddims, while Kingston-based singer-songwriter Couch adds pure Jamaican flavor via her patois-tinged vocals and sensual lyrics.
DejaVilla released their debut single, “Suit a Rebel” (Ultra Music), in October 2018. A sultry yet gritty love song, “Suit a Rebel” pairs a velvety downtempo electronic beat with shades of R&B and rolling hip-hop drums as Couch delivers seductive, haze-filled vocals and smoked-out lyrics. The track—which originally began as a collaborative production between Marston and his high school friend from Jamaica, Adam Francis, aka Frano—features vocals from Los Angeles-based Jamaican artist Kat C.H.R and dub reggae pioneer and Jamaican icon Lee “Scratch” Perry. In December 2018, DejaVilla released “Feel Me Running Away” (Ultra Music), featuring Kat C.H.R and co-written by producer Dan Izco, which blends smooth and sexy R&B melodies with chilled-out house undertones.
In February 2019, DejaVilla released new single “Ochi to Mobay” (Ultra Music), a playful and flirty romp through dub, reggae, and R&B and an ode to sexual independence and fierce self-confidence. The track will be featured on a forthcoming EP (spring 2019/Ultra Music), which traverses exotic Afrobeats, escapist vibes and retro-futuristic themes.
