About Ayaaso Band

Ayaaso Band was formed in the fall of 2003. Asante Blue keyboards, flutes, and vocals and Fes Williams bass and drum machine began jamming in a garage at East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. Not long after they recruited Bill Bojangles, an experienced vocalist, lyricist and friend. In 2005, master keyboardist, vocalist and arranger Bunny Cunnigham along with Steady Demming on drums became members.

All members of the band were born in Jamaica except for the drummer, who was born in St. Kitts. Asante Blue, born in Kingston, Jamaica, is a former member of the Fullhand Band. They played the popular clubs on Long Island and the famous CBGM in New York City. Fes Wiliams, a talented bass player hails from the parish of St Thomas, Jamaica. Bill Bojangles is from Kingston and has shared the musical stage with the likes of Rob Symeonn, J D Smoothe, K Vibes, Meditations and dance hall legend Sammy Dread. Steady Demming was born on the island of St. Kitts, played drums as a teenager with local bands and later, on the Carnival Cruise Lines, playing all styles of music. He later migrated to New York and started to play reggae music professionally.

Ayaaso Band is a Roots Reggae Band. They have performed at Afrika House with MF Burrowes and at numerous other local venues including the Medgar Evers’ Annual Jazzy Jazz Festival. They have also performed at the Marcus Garvey Center, sharing the bill with the likes of Shango Trex, Rob Symeonn, Bigga Haitian and the Ruff Stuff Band. In addition, they have two tracks on the Cha “Maine’s latest album “Here’s To Love”, the title track, on the Living Room Label.

Popular Reggae Blog, “Achis’ Reggae Blog” states, “one of the greatest ‘finds’ in the brief history of this blog, the Ayaaso Band." Achis Reggae Blog reviewed Ayaaso band debut album, “A brighter day”. Read review here: http:achisreggae.blogspot.com/2010/04/jamsession

The Ayaaso band has gained extensive recognition in the New York area, travelling as far as upstate Peekskill to perform in that community’s annual festival. In Brooklyn, they are recognized as a local band with a unique sound. They have attracted a number of veteran musicians including saxophonists Douglas Guthrie and Charles Dougherty. With the departure of keyboard specialist Bunny Cunningham, the group has chosen a competent replacement in Eric Toussaint. Also, after competing against the band in a band clash, acclaimed guitarist Andrea Greene has chosen to become a regular in the Ayaaso family. The addition of percussionist Bobby Rickman completed the membership.

The Ayaaso band has caught the attention of renowned keyboard player Sydney Mills of Steel Pulse. The band performed at his recent annual birthday bash that was attended by many celebrities in the music industry, and was a much talked about event. Recently, their televised performance at the BRIC television studios in Brooklyn continued the trend of successful performances. The band continues to grow in confidence and professionalism, under the guidance of Living Room studios and Purpose Publishing. They now look forward to converting new audiences to Ayaaso fans.
