About Nocturnes YeQu

Nocturnes曳取 are an Indie-Electronic band based in Beijing, China. Their music has been described as “emotional”, “sultry”, “atmospheric” and “immersive”, and sits somewhere between the intensity of Foals, the electronic elements of Bonobo and the pop sensibilities of Coldplay. The band was officially formed in late 2015 and in March 2016 they independently released their
first EP, A World Full of Adults.

They released their first EP with label Cao Tai, Dust Into Glory, in March 2017, receiving positive reviews and strong online play, with the EP being described as a “sensual concoction of impeccably groomed arrangements, fluid nuanced piano chords and a seamless blend of English and Chinese vocals that linger in the air.” A song from that EP, Shutter, was featured internationally in Spotify’s Viral 50 as the number 1 song on the week of its release. Another song from the collection, Perfect Tide, was featured in the CCTV documentary Altay Frontier, a documentary about modern and traditional skiers in Xinjiang, China.

In the same period, Nocturnes曳取 released a series of 4 cover videos of songs by their peers in the Chinese Indie scene. One of these videos, a cover of Future Orients' "Running", currently has 7.5 million views on the Chinese Twitter platform Weibo. A more recent cover of Drake’s “Passionfruit”, has over 100,000 views.

Their debut album Lines Written in Code was released at the end of 2017, followed with a national tour in March and April, 2018, travelling to over 13 cities in Greater China, including sold-out shows in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The album found its way into several Chinese publications as part of their albums of 2018 lists. Lines... also led to Nocturnes曳取 being shortlisted to play at MIDEM 2018 as well as shortlisted for the Golden Melody Awards, Asia's Grammys.

Their new single, Any Kind of Mood, is due for release at the end of September, followed by a 6-city tour of China, taking in Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi'an and Changsha. This will be followed by their second EP with Cao Tai in early 2019, this time with a larger tour, including dates in Taiwan and South Korea.
