About Denver Haylee
“I like the way you touch my body. You’ve got the power to heal my heartache
with remedies of everything that I lack.
It feels like a fire ever-burning. Transferring love and a warmth I’m yearning
And manifests as fingertips down my back”
- “Body Sangin” by Denver Haylee

Toronto-based R&B and Soul singer-songwriter Denver Haylee started writing songs at the age of 18 after being gifted an acoustic guitar as a getaway from her exercise-science studies and competition as a D1-NCAA Basketball player. Denver posted her first release shortly after - an acoustic cover of “The Park” by Feist on Soundcloud in 2012. Denver found and lost love during this time of her life and sought healing through songwriting but unexpectedly developed a sense of understanding & empathy for the opposite sex which continues to be a theme in her music today.

Denver decided to venture into music professionally after singing backup vocals for R&B singer & friend TiKA in March 2017. Denver received many requests that evening for links to her music and left people surprised when she had no music to offer. Denver began producing and writing in July 2017 after returning from an inspiring trip to Hawaii. Denver had her first performance of originals including, “Stay The Same” on January 14th, 2018 at the popular Poetry Jazz Cafe, nestled in the heart of Toronto’s Kensington Market.

Denver’s self-produced EP set for release in Spring of 2018, “The Elements of Love”, highlights instances of affection, peace, compassion, and mercy throughout intimate relationships while celebrating the ability that men have to inspire and direct love powerfully yet with ease. Denver combines honest confessions of regret and loss with 6-string therapy in “Rewind” and describes states of bliss induced by the simplest of touch in “Body Sangin’”. Denver’s haunting “Like Water”, provides testimonial of love manifested in nature throughout her time on the Islands of Honolulu and Maui. “It was overwhelming for me to experience the cycles of nature that were taking place and to acknowledge that I was not only a mere witness but a willing a willing participant. Total submission. Nature’s power was out of my control. So powerfully, yet with ease. I believe that this is what true love is like too, and I hope you experience that with my music.

Denver Hayley Frances McLean better known as Denver Haylee (pronounced Den-ver Hay-Lee) was born in Birmingham, England on November 28th, 1990. Denver moved to Toronto, Canada in 1997 with her British-Jamaican mother who exposed her early on to country music and Jazz through the works of Tammy Wynette, Dinah Washington, Brook Benton, & Anita Baker. Denver’s biological father, well-known Trinidadian Soca DJ, Sylvester the Socamaster, was a member of the funk & soul music band “The J.A.L.N band” with his brothers who made appearances on the Top of the Pops in the 1970’s. As a misfit Denver found solace in music by Hanson, Celine Dion, Tamia, Jann Arden, Amy Sky, and Shania Twain. Denver began covering jingles by ear with the recorder at school and keyboard at home at the age of 8. While attending performing Arts school in Brampton, Ontario to study the Bass Clarinet, Denver discovered Feist & Damien Rice fuelling an acoustic revolution of her musicality.
