About Front Porch Revival

Noah Shull grew up near Mifflin, a rural village just south of Ashland, Ohio, where he heard the Blues thanks to his parents' record collection, which featured such artists as David Bromberg and Jorma Kaukonen. Young Noah's interest was so intense, his parents gave him a guitar and a course of lessons with Ashland musician and teacher Jimmy Vincent. He never looked back. By junior high school, Shull was cutting class so he could hang out at the Ashland music store. He has subsequently played far and wide, concentrating on the repertory of the Reverend Gary Davis, who had been David Bromberg's teacher and one of Jorma Kaukonen's main influences. Davis, blind since youth, was one of the major figures of the Piedmont Blues scene which emerged in the Carolinas in the 1920s. Davis remained a prominent figure in American roots music through his death in 1972 and beyond, thanks to his numerous students and musical descendants, which now include Noah Shull. Noah Shull performs solo and accompanied by a constantly rotating cast of phenomenal traditional Blues/Americana musicians. Noah plays the type of music that was played in the rural south between the turn of the century(1900) and the 1940's, the way it was played then. Sounds Like Heartbreak; Loneliness; Poverty; Ramblin'; Bad Luck; Trouble; Pain; Sorry; Loathing; Despair & Evil Women- peppered with deep felt Spirituals.
