About Rear Naked Choke
Rear Naked Choke was formed in 2009 in Abilene Texas. Though it all started when a few friends got together to just jam and have a little fun it soon became obvious that there was something special going on. It didn't take long for the ideas to start flowing and songs began taking form. After a few member shuffles the band solidified and things really started to move forward for the band.
Through their own brand of Heavy Rock n Roll and high energy live performances they began gaining notice in the local music scene. That attention has gotten them the opportunities to play with National and Regional bands such as Nothing More, Saliva, Tantric, The Devil You Know, Texas Hippy Coalition, Messer and more. They recently released their full length Self Titled album, produced by CJ Pierce of Drowning Pool, and have been hitting the road in support of the album.
While RNC has their own style and sound and don't attempt to emulate or fit into a mold, fans of music in the vein of Metallica, Clutch, Godsmack, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, Down etc... will more than likely enjoy the music of Rear Naked Choke.
Member Bios:
Mick Taylor – Vocals: Mick was born in Bowie, TX but raised in Oklahoma. After cutting his teeth in Lawton, OK, Mick returned to Texas ready to take the music scene by storm. A veteran of several successful bands Mick brings experience to RNC. That experience, along with his strong lyrical ability, unique & powerful voice and high energy presence, continues to excite audiences everywhere RNC plays.
Chris Summers – Guitar: Chris was born & raised in Abilene, Texas. He first got interested in guitar after his cousin, Mike, got a guitar and started playing. Since then guitar has remained a large part of his life. From working at music stores to using music as a inspiration for his artwork, music was a constant. Chris was a part of RNC from the beginning, first working to help dial in guitar tones and serving as their tech before moving to playing rhythm guitar. Chris's no nonsense playing style provides the solid guitar foundation that keeps the RNC sound strong.
Joshua Finch – Guitar: Josh was born and raised in Abilene, TX. Being exposed to music from a young age he started off playing in his grandmothers band, the Finch Orchestra, when he was 14. Over the next few years he continued to hone his guitar skill playing in various other local Abilene bands before joining RNC. While he is the youngest member of RNC, he has talent beyond his years and as the lead guitarist he brings both screaming and tasteful guitar solos and fresh ideas to the RNC sound.
Paul Kidd – Drums: Paul was born in Houston Texas and moved to the Abilene area when he was 7. He began playing percussion in Middle school and eventually moved on to drums. His high school instructor was in a blues/jazz band that would play at the club that Paul’s mother owned and they would let Paul sit in and play on occasion. As more friends started playing music Paul initially picked up the Bass Guitar and played bass in bands for several years before making the switch to drums. Paul is the newest member of RNC and has been a great addition to the band. His playing style and influences really add a new element to the RNC sound and has opened new musical doors for the band.
Don Bruton – Bass: Don was born and raised in the Abilene area. He has been a staple or the heavy music scene in Abilene for some time. He began playing bass in his teens and quickly became one of the most sought after bass players around Abilene. Playing in many local bands he honed his skill and his stage presence and there is no doubt that Don is a beast on the bass and on stage. Since joining RNC Don has really established a solid bass foundation that keeps the RNC sound grounded and thick.
Mike Morgan – Guitar: Mike was born on a Naval base in Pensacola, Florida. He lived much of his younger years in Oregon until coming to live in Abilene, Texas in his early teens. Mike's road to guitar started in high-school when he borrowed $25 from his grandmother to get his first guitar. Mike is a never ending source of riffs and song ideas. He is also one of the most experienced members of RNC, having also been in several successful bands. Mike's exceptional guitar playing is the cornerstone of the RNC sound. Unfortunately in early 2014 Mike tragically lost his battle with cancer but made the remaining members promise to carry on and bring the music he made and inspired to as many people as possible.
