John Walker King

California-born John King was born in the 1950’s, reared on the sounds of Surf and cultured in the doctrines of soul, folk and country.

Music has been a consistent and integral part of King’s life. He has spent the past 50 years entrenched in the industry, watching his various releases pressed in every format - acetate in the late 70’s, cassette in the 80’s and CD’s in the 90’s. Those decades were full of highlights including opening slots for Jerry Lee Lewis, Jerry Garcia and Linda Ronstadt. Years of consistent studio work and live performance have solidified King’s profile as an in-demand session player who can seamlessly hop from guitar to fiddle to lead and backup vocals.

John played the Los Angeles club circuit for 30 years, including a stint in the famous house band from the Palomino Club in North Hollywood. He was scouted by several labels and talent managers, eventually integrating into several prominent, large-scale acts including The Crossfire Band and The Dynamite Gangbusters - quintessential urban cowboys of the West Coast who specialized in high energy country rock for the beach milieu. In the press clippings from that time, King was always singled out as distinct and dynamic performer whose homespun virtuosity drew comparisons The Eagles and The Band.

Over the years, King’s supreme musicality has never faded, nor his devotion to playing live, it has only grown stronger. In his hometown of Idyllwild, audiences flock to hear their local favorite, John’s hometown band Change Required, while the surrounding Inland Empire has called on him to provide entertainment in some of the biggest venues and casinos around. His current set list features a combination of perfectly pitched classic rock favorites and rootsy, heartfelt originals.
