About New Caracas

Inspired in the crossroads of Latin American cultures, New Caracas was founded in 2012 by Luis D’Elias, PJ Duffy, Brendan Pajak, and Evan Waaramaa in 2012 and defines itself as a collective of musicians, that craft a vast soundscape of rhythms and melodies inspired in the South American experience, its folklore, and its traditions. For their debut album under their former name Luis D'Elias Ensemble, the band was nominated to the Independent Music Awards, the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and the Premios Pepsi Music in Venezuela. Currently they are working on their new album after being completely funded through IndieGogo in 2017. The release will showcase the talents of singers of all over North and South America telling stories of immigration and the Latin American Diaspora. With an eclectic backdrop of musicians from the NYC area, New Caracas imbues their music with the unique vibrance and energy of a multicultural cast of artists under one vision: to expand latin music to new frontiers and create a community based around the sounds and colors of Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, and the rest of the South America.

Described by Andrei Cherascu as "a lush soundscape of profound musicality", the music crafted by New Caracas finds itself at the crossroads between between Venezuelan folklore and contemporary musical genres like pop, rock, and jazz. The New York based multi-cultural collective has dedicated its musical craft to developing a true blend of modern jazz harmonies, classical structures, rock & roll energy, and Latin grooves, while having South America as the melodic, rhythmic, and lyrical anchors of the group’s vision. In this way, New Caracas dives deeply into musical storytelling drawn from the Venezuelan and Latin American diaspora with the help of a cast of musicians from various parts the United States, Colombia, Ecuador, and Greece. This amalgamation of international musicians has been key to New Caracas's unique fusion of modern jazz, rock and pop idioms with folkloric South American notions and inspirations.

Currently, the band is working on the release of their new album, NOS, which will be a collection of songs inspired in the various experiences of Latin Americans immigrants in the US and the rest of the world. It is a conceptual album that explores the ideas of making a home away from home, finding yourself as a stranger in a strange land, and how we all are wanderers and nomads at heart. Co-produced with Latin Grammy winner, Emilio Miler, the album will feature a 10 piece band as the backdrop to stellar performances by talented featured artists like Colombian singer-songwriter Alea, famed Venezuelan singer Nella Rojas, Ecuador's virtuous singer Luz Pinos, and Jonathan Hoard, best known for his work on Chance The Rapper's Grammy winning album. The band also seeks actively to collaborate with artists from different disciplines, like Venezuelan visual artist Andrea Amanda, and Mexican filmmaker Rosa Amanda Tuirán, defying the boundaries of art and adding dimensions that only music could not provide.
