About Cunningham / Haines

The Cunningham/Haines band might be new but don't be fooled, the combined musical resume of Glen Cunningham and Ray Haines is most impressive.

Each born into musical families well versed in a combination of gigs ranging from kitchen jams to big stages; these two have a undeniable passion for what they do. One could say they were born to perform.

Glen, originally from Minto, NB began playing the piano at the age of five and was soon dabbling with just about any instrument he could get his hands on. At the age of 13, he completed his first tour as a paid musician (no joke)! Now residing in Fredericton NB, Glen proudly displays not one but two Canadian Country Music Awards for his time spent in the band "The Austinators" touring in the last 90's as lead guitarist for Julian Austin.

In recent years, Glen spent time performing with a group of peers in a high-energy cover band known as "Mucky Fingers" as lead vocalist and lead guitarist. Often, when his schedule would allow, he would find himself filling in with the local band "Flat Top" where a new venture presented itself when he and Ray shared the stage and truly realized their unique ability to harmonize in a way often reserved for siblings.

Ray, who won his first singing competition at the age of three, is a "shy-guy" but you would never know that when he walks on stage. Wailing tunes from classic country to rock n roll, he's truly at home singing for crowds.

In his early twenties, Haines began writing songs and for twenty years since, his friends and fans have been enjoying his ability to put pen to paper turning words into lyrics. In 2002, Ray along with band mate Matt Andersen stole the hearts of many with a band called "Flat Top" when they showcased Ray's original songs as they competed in (and won) the New Artist Showcase/Rising Star Award and New Brunswick's long time running "Harvest Jazz And Blues Festival". Shortly after Andersen moved away but the band reigned on, recording a full length CD called "Long Shot" comprised of original songs mostly written by Haines. The album snagged the group their most coveted award from the Toronto Independent Music Awards for "Best Out Of Province Act" in 2007.

Each older and wiser now, the guys are looking forward to their next chapter. One full on songwriting strong lyrics, sweet harmonies, killer guitar riffs and audiences that have an appreciation for the live music scene. Offering configurations as duo, trio and full band (joined by long time friends Mike Jones on Bass and Pat Pelletier on drums) they accommodate any size venue large or small.
