Guiss Guiss Bou Bess has a mission—to share the rich rhythms, culture and identity of Senegal with the world.
Guiss Guiss Bou Bess is the merging of two artists and two worlds: Mara Seck (Senegal) & Stéphane Costantini (France). Through their musical exchange, Mara and Stéphane have built a bridge between African and Electronic music—with a particular focus on traditional Senegalese Sabar drumming and the popular musical style in Senegal known as Mbalax.
Guiss Guiss Bou Bess breaks down cultural barriers to make the rhythms and identity of Mbalax understandable to everybody. The vision is to preserve the cultural heritage of Senegal while at the same time making it accessible to the world beyond.
The project debuted in Dakar, Senegal and since then they have performed at festivals & venues all around Europe (Womex, MIL, Atlantic Music Expo, Trans Musicales, Rototom, Paleo, Sziget,...)
