About Mass Grave

Massgrave (often written Mass Grave) is a Canadian anarchist crust punk band formed in 2002 in Vancouver. Following legendary predecessors like Disrupt, as well as Doom and Warcollapse, Massgrave is a strong advocate of world peace, being anti-war, pro-marijuana, pro-animal liberation, and anti-class oppression. Massgrave's roots began to grow after the break up of Goat and Woody's crust band Trench Rats in 2001. They began to jam and write songs for a band that wouldn't even play a show for nearly one and a half years. They met Lenny who soon after made the move from the island to Vancouver. He had some brutal yelps, and was also very tall, so he was a perfect fit. With no luck finding a drummer, they recorded a 7 song never released demo with Woody on bass and vocs, Lenny on vocs, and Goat on guitar and drums. They played their first show with this line up. The grindcore band Neckbeerd from Northern B.C. had just moved to Vancouver, so Hesher was asked to fill in on drums. Hesher, also being relatively tall, fit the mold well. So there they were, 4 tall stoners with crusty dreams of grinding the country side. Massgrave recorded their second demo Chud, and soon after the split CD with Neckbeerd, and their first Canadian tour.

In 2003, Massgrave released their first EP Survival of the Richest, on Barrage of Salt Records out of Seattle, and toured the US and Canada for 6 weeks. Meeting Phoneix grindcore band Warfair? along the way, it was agreed a split release was much needed. In 2004 that split was released on Coughing Up Records in Phoneix. After a year of local shows and jamming, Massgrave was ready to hit the road again. With 4 weeks in the US and a few Canadian dates, they recorded a full length LP People Are The Problem, which soon after was released on Unrest Records out of Edmonton Alberta.

Recently, Massgrave recorded material for 3 split 7 inches. The split with Pretty Little Flower (from Texas) is being self-released, and should be out soon. Splits with Poser Disposer (Sask), and Global holocaust (Montreal) will be released on Unrest Records, by late summer. 50,000 doobies, and 50,000 beers later, Massgrave is still going strong, with plans of future albums and tours to come.
