About Kaitlin Keegan
Kaitlin Keegan, the Naarm-based/Boorloo-raised singer-songwriter, is an exciting artist on the rise. Based off a poem Keegan wrote, her new single “Magpie” is about growing up, learning from mistakes, and a reminder to never make yourself small for the benefit of others.
Produced and mixed by Stephen Mowat (Tyne-James Organ) and mastered by George Georgiadis (Matt Corby), “Magpie” is the latest addition to Kaitlin’s growing back catalogue of tender, emotionally aware songcraft and showcase’s her captivating vocals and preternatural ability to capture the universal in the everyday.
Her previous release, 2023’s alone is too loud, along with previous standalone singles ‘Missed Call’ and ‘Separate’, have endeared listeners and earned strong support from triple j, Unearthed as well as spins across community radio nation-wide. Playing regularly around her adopted hometown, Keegan has cemented her reputation as an artist whose songs are deeply personal but also endlessly relatable – set to a backdrop of irresistibly melodic, shimmering indie-folk. In her short career so far, Keegan already has a slew of impressive achievements under her belt: inking a publishing deal with Mushroom Music, being invited to SongHubs – a songwriting workshop curated by Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla, appearing at Isolaid Festival, selling out headline shows across Melbourne and recently supporting Sophie May (UK). Along with her own music, she has also collaborated with WA’s Supathick and electronic artist Tim Shiel, appearing on his song ‘Sparrow’, which was added to Double J, multiple playlists across Spotify and Apple Music as well as receiving airplay from US tastemaker station KCRW. As Shiel himself says, “Kaitlin’s voice has a stunning purity and directness that embeds reality in everything she sings, and as a songwriter she has a gift for elevating the everyday into something majestic, and that’s a rare gift.” Some more nice words for Kaitlin Keegan:
“One of Australia’s best songwriters is back and at her very best.” – Abby Butler, triple j.
“This just sounds like an instant classic. Gorgeous songwriting, beautifully executed, and LOVE that twang.” – Zan Rowe, Double J.
“Keegan certainly has a bright future ahead of her.” – The Music.
“If you’re only just getting to know her now, congrats, you’ve just found your new fave artist.” – Dave Ruby Howe, Unearthed.
