The Oakland Crush

The Oakland Crush are a quintet of veteran Bay Area musicians playing vintage instrumental Funky Soul and Jazz inspired by artists such as The Meters, Booker T & the MG's, Jimmy Smith and James Brown. We feature a group of highly experienced professionals who have performed in various ensembles throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan and Brazil. Our players have also performed at many local venues including The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, The Warfield, The independent, Slim's, The Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Bimbo's, Herbst Theater and The Treasure Island Music Festival. Our name, borrowed from a song by local legends Tower of Power, pays homage to the great Funk and Soul tradition of Oakland. Our musical repertoire can be tailored to a variety of moods and ranges from groovy cocktail and dinner sets to funky dance floor throw-downs.
