About HALF PAST DEAD BAND
Steve Hartman had a love of music for as long as he can remember (he recalls listening to CSN&Y in his mother's womb). He has been playing in bands and performing for 25 years. Most recently (before Half Past Dead) as a solo acoustic act: Steve Hartman-Acoustic Troubadour
I guess I'll start. I'm Frank Orlando, and I started drumming at age 13. I'm 48 as I'm writing this, so the math says I have been drumming on & off for the better part of 35 years. My brother Vince gets credit for my early inspiration, being he plays guitar even longer than I play. I used to sneak in the basement & play a drum kit that was there because his band practiced in our basement. So, thanks Brother Vince for that. As for the music I grew up playing and listening to, from AC/DC to Led Zeppelin. Heavy stuff, I cut my teeth on that stuff for my first 5 years or so drumming along to the records & jamming with my brother. Then came the music that would change everything from my interest & influence as a musician, well, I mean a drummer, we're kinda musicians, but just different!
The Grateful Dead. They quickly, after my 1st show in 1982, became the only band I wanted to see, again and again. Then the music I wanted to play. They touched my soul in a way that can only be described as a type of "transcending magic". This started a new experience in meeting other musicians who felt the same, and at the time there were many. So my past endeavors included keeping the time with, to name just a few: The Electric Flannels, Working without a net, Funky Buddha, Pangea, The Gooner Brothers, The Youngers & The Cabin project ,and of course the long time running Orlando Brothers. Those bands stretched from the genres of San Francisco's Bay Area bands, Psychedelic rock, blues, folk, jammy & a real eclectic mix of American folk, and southern fried cowboy acid rock!
If I had to list my top 5 favorite drummers, I would be 5th! So these days the new band "HALF PAST DEAD" is really proving to be the most fun and promising line up of players that I have had the privilege to share the stage with since I can remember. It's really starting to gel. There's something special going on with these guys, and we are just about getting started, if it gets any better, I may not be able to stand it! I hope to see you all out there in the crowd, dancing & shaking your bones. I'll do my part to provide the rhythm 110%! Thanks & stay kind...Frank.
