About Adam Levy: Musician

Whether guitarist Adam Levy’s rich musical career is the result of good fortune or hard work is tough to say. What’s undeniable is that Levy has created a remarkable body of work, and his talents continue to evolve.

An imaginative songwriter and composer, Levy’s songs have been recorded by Norah Jones, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), and others. Levy’s writing can best be appreciated on his own recordings — including ‘Blueberry Blonde,’ ‘Town & Country,’ and ‘Vs.’ (a collaboration with pedal-steel guitarist Rich Hinman).

Levy is also widely respected as a sideman. He never steps into the solo spotlight without something meaningful to add to a song. His work on Norah Jones’ hit “Come Away with Me” is a shining example. Understated yet memorable, Levy’s solo here draws on jazz and country elements to reflect the song’s earnest sentiment. His bluesy ride on Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” tells a juicy story, with not a single note wasted. He’s also a nuanced accompanist, as can be heard on Allen Toussaint’s recording of “American Tune.”

Teaching has long been a vital component of Levy’s musical life. He has taught courses and private lesson at USC, NYU, and Los Angeles College of Music, and has presented guest lectures at universities and music academies worldwide. He is the author of the book ‘Play the Right Stuff’ and is the host of the popular YouTube series Guitar Tips.
