About Mark Hampton Bassist
Mark is a seasoned bassist who has been playing bass since the age of 14. He is the third cousin of the Jazz Legend Lionel Hampton and also a possible distant cousin to Jazz sensation Pharez Whitted who is also a cousin of Lionel Hampton. Mark grew up in a family full of musicians. His aunt Martha Abbott played with the late great jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery and his brother David played with the Late Funk Phenom, Rick James – while his brother Chucky played for Kenny Logins. Mark steped away from the Jazz music seen and recorded two gospel CD’s and even pastored two churches. Mark is an ordained minister and has a deep passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mark knows that God owns ALL MUSIC and we are all just stewarts of it. After 30 years away from Jazz, Mark is getting back to his roots in music with his latest project ROOTS! ROOTS, is a classic CD telling the rich story of the black experience in America as it borrows rhythms from Africa and the Caribbean. If you Like Marcus Miller and Nathan East, get ready to add Mark Hampton to that list!
