About Rebecca Southward
Rebecca "Happy Feet" Southward is a vocalist & minister of song based in the Los Angeles area. She was born in Georgia and raised in the Twin Cities, Minnesota before landing in California.
Rebecca began singing at a very young age. Her mom always knew where she was in the house because she would hear her singing. So in second grade, she started off with her first vocal coach, Diana Hanson. Shortly after, she gave her first performance at the school talent show. Later on she joined Partners in Praise Girls' Choir (PIP), a group that performed and ministered regularly throughout the Twin Cities. In her middle school years, she began studying with Ben Allen, a vocal professor at several universities in the Twin City area. Her musical journey and experiences continued to grow as she traveled internationally with PIP, became the vocalist of "Jambalaya" a high school jazz band, performed in several musicals and plays at school, and lead worship for her youth group weekly.
In 2006, she picked up and moved to Los Angeles, California where she studied music at Azusa Pacific University. There she studied commercial jazz voice and learned how to do her own arranging. In 2009, an abnormal growth had been discovered in her neck during a routine check up over. The results later confirmed that she had Papillary Thyroid Cancer and was forced to take a break in her schooling. After surgery in February of 2009, Rebecca has been cancer free, all glory to God! She returned to school and finished with her B.A. in 2010 followed shortly after by a Master's of Arts in Digital Teaching and Learning in 2012.
After graduating, she decided started teaching middle school -- computers, film, and later yearbook as well. To keep with her passion for music, she became heavily involved at her church, Fountain of Love Christian Center (FOLCC). Currently, she is one of their regular worship leaders, Music Department Assistant, and lead over the Youth Worship Team, a group that she founded to train the next generation in worship through music.
In 2016, she embarked upon a journey to begin recording with producer and pianist J.MIchael O'Neal. In December of that year, she released her first single on iTunes "Hark" an arrangement of the Christmas classic "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." In October 2017, she released her first worship single (and original, "Sing a New Song," with many more to come!
