About Tyler J. Spicer
Tyler started his musical career as a trumpeter and singer, playing with orchestras, concert bands, and choirs from the age of 8. Aged 12 Tyler took up the bass guitar, playing with school mates and mutual friends from the Berkshire area. His first success with the bass was reaching the final of his hometown of Maidenhead's Battle of the Bands, and playing to 1000 people at an outdoor festival aged 14.
Studying music at Pangbourne College from age 14-18 saw Tyler heavily involved on the trumpet playing in the Marching Band, Concert band, Orchestra, brass ensembles and Jazz band. This saw an involvement with big public events such as playing the Last Post on Remembrance Sunday. His singing also continued, developing his voice as a Tenor and singing classically, in choral contexts as well as solo. This included singing annually at St. Paul's Cathedral as part of the Seafarer's Service. Tyler also achieved his ABRSM Grade 8 singing.
During his time at Pangbourne College Tyler formed a new band and developed his organisational skills in finding gigs, organising rehearsals and recordings sessions, releasing content and online publicity, as well as developing his songwriting as one of the lead writers of the band. His development as a bassist and involvement with the jazz band as a brass player led Tyler to step up and take the bass chair in his last year. He also became the first student to play in a band stuffed full of session musicians for the College's annual production, in 2014’s Little Shop of Horrors.
In late 2014 Tyler moved to Bath to study BA Music and English at Bath Spa University, specialising in jazz bass guitar and double bass. This led him to meet the members of Nine Mile Ride and IDLSIDE and establish himself playing both mainstream styles as well as playing with various Jazz ensembles across the South-West. Early-mid 2015 saw Tyler release the Roads EP with Nine Mile Ride, and tour UK venues and festivals in promotion of this. 2015 also saw Tyler further his experience in musical theatre playing bass for a South-West production of Little Shop of Horrors, as well as Bath Spa's Dennis! The Musical. However, his greatest success to date in musical theatre was yet to come as he secured the chair for The Liberty Tree’s Bath and London’s West-End debuts, with week long runs in both cities.
Tyler worked as the producer/mixer/engineer on Pleasant Vice's two singles, Albatross and Wide Eyed. He has also taken one or more of these roles on the whole catalogue of Nine Mile Ride and IDLSIDE.
