About New Discolour

New Discolour is a progressive and hard-hitting band that explores and challenges the fundamental soundscape of the metal genre, with no compromise. New Discolour was formed in 2008 by Søren Thomsen (guitar) and Lasse Mikkelsen (drums). At the time the band went under She Is Malignant. Later on additions were made in the shape of Mayu Tharumann (bass), Artem Kushnirenko (vocal) and Jesper Rasmussen (guitar). The acquaintance and relation among the bands members, goes far back to before the creation of New Discolour, where they played in different settings across each other. The acquaintance started off in a mutual passionate interest in music and more precisely the metal genre, which in the years has brought a truly tight bond and friendship among the members. The force in New Discolour lays in the members personal and cultural diversities. That combined wreathes a versatile, creative and experimenting fellowship. A broad yet joint community, where contrasts and interests are united in one common vision of making uncompromised and progressive metal, with authentic lyrics to substantiate the dark soundscape. In 2009 New Discolour recorded their first EP, “Silent Scream”, in collaboration with Christian Bonde (CB-studios references; Compos Mentis, Escaping Autumn, 100 knives inside, Invisius, Trusted Few, Siamese Fighting Fish etc.). The EP stirred up a rather big buzz and mention. Therefore the band was nominated as the best metal artist, at the 2009 Underground Music Awards. Despite the distinctions, the band did not want to record their debut release with the particular sound of the EP, as it came short of defining the intended personal and experimental visions. That led to a new and demanding writing-process in New Discolour, which ended with the recording of the debut album “Short of Ink” in 2010. Just before the boys had in unity defined the future sound and expression of New Discolour, with the result of Søren (guitar), Jesper (guitar) and Lasse (drums) going on recording the album. Shortly after vocal and drum productions started, together with Christian Bonde and Morten Løjborg. Artem (vocal) finished writing the lyrics in corporation with the band, just after the guitar production. The lyrics are marked by cultural differences together with a critical attitude towards corruption, political suppression and the fatal consequences of bureaucracy – all this based on a personal point of view. The criticism also holds a wish and hope for improvement in the shape of charity and peace. In proportion to the recording of drums, a rather large variety of rhythms was preferred, together with an untypical yet all-round sound with inspirations from genres such as alternative, funk and hip hop, without affecting the gloomy sound and feeling. The entire process was short, but intense and though. The music was produced at such a moment, where the creativity was not bound by limitations and disturbance. Thereupon the band went through some uncompromised considerations. The result is progressive, heavy and hard-hitting debut album, distinguished by an epic soundscape, recognizable tones and a deliberate focus on the detail. Throughout the entire record a red line is drawn, to maintain the listener intensely and thereby reveal the many depths of the album. THANK YOU - GOODBYE! WE HAD A BLAST!
