About Svensax

SVENSAX is a wordsmith. A poetry-driven lyricist, rooted in the influences of glory day hip-hop (Big Daddy Kane and Eric B. & Rakim to Ice Cube and Digable Planets). Sighting Andre 3000 as his biggest lyrical influence, Svensax’s style is best described as multi-layered, pensive thought patterns positioned carefully over syncopated rhythms. Marcel Sven Saxlund (a.k.a. Svensax) has an unusual background for a verbose emcee. There is nothing street about him, nor did the pressure from his cuticles ever spawn graffiti on any a’ wall. Born to Swedish and Norwegian parents, Marcel went to pre-school in Norway and spent significant time in Sweden, but settled in Dana Point, California. At a time when hip-hop didn’t have mainstream acceptance, Marcel gravitated to the local record stores searching out anything hip-hop, studying beats and rhymes just as much as his school work. Marcel became obsessed with detail and order, musical and otherwise. Wanting to leave his fingerprints on something musical and creative, Marcel abruptly realized he should do the “expected” thing and focus on getting a “real” job. So, his neatly-scripted lyrics remained captive in a notebook whose existence only he knew. In the late 1990’s, Marcel worked on Wall Street where he realized his soul went missing. The countless work hours distracted Marcel from his true passion, the passion he dismissed as a hobby years before. Although the corporate experience would later play an integral role in defining his character and work ethic, it was time to redirect his focus. After three years of the corporate grind, Marcel decided to shed his suit and all its symbols in order to reintroduce himself to himself. He moved to Hollywood, California and met Greco Rossetti, a versatile producer/programmer/engineer who had worked with Michael Jackson, Ice-T and several other established names. Marcel and Greco shared a similar musical vision that bonded them immediately. They formed the vocal-driven electronic duo, Shotgun Radio, with Marcel at the helm as lead singer/rapper. They have since released their fourth studio album, “The Vacant Nation” and have several film & television licensing credits to their name. Concurrently, Marcel tapped into his alter-ego, Svensax, to deliver his debut album entitled, “The Rotten Philosophy” (available on iTunes) that has been described as “hip-hop/electro/lounge”. The album’s thought-provoking wordplay nestles perfectly over serene, yet dark and moody soundscapes. Svensax’s aforementioned obsession with detail and order can be witnessed here as every syllable uttered has been strategically placed. Not only is Svensax finalizing his second album and performing at such places as The Viper Room in Hollywood, he continues to check his stove multiple times before leaving the house each day. Marcel, meet Svensax. Svensax, meet Marcel.
