About Nikki Shannon Fernandez

"It all started on Thanksgiving Eve when I was four years old. My mom went to buy a horse and instead came back with an old upright piano that was for sale outside a church." Growing up in Kingston, New York, I would watch my two older sisters play the piano and I begged my mother for lessons. After the passing of my first piano teacher I taught myself until my senior year of high school when I once again took lessons to re-learn 'appropriate' technique. I began performing and songwriting in my early teens and in June of 2008 I self released my first album, "Too Few." Several of these tracks have been played on episodes of ABC’s "Six Degrees", MTV's "The Hills" as well as XM Satellite radio and New York City's Classic Rock station, 104.3 'Out of the Box' hosted by Jonathan Clarke. I am no stranger to struggle and I have been described as both "Park Avenue and park bench”. The answer is consistent when asked what’s always kept me going... MUSIC. It’s not what I do but who I am. Carrying the stage name 'Nikki Shannon' for so many years now has helped me create an identity that was not defined by my surname, Fernandez, enabling me to write and sing ROCK without feeling I'm misleading my audience. Many lives have been lived by me through the years and I've now come full circle, bringing everything 'back to my roots' as I put it, and I embrace the artist that is finally and totally Nikki Fernandez. I believe that by sharing my empowerment and self realization through song it will in turn bring the 'real deal' back to music…let’s just make music...no agenda, no time line...just letting it happen I re-located to Nashville, TN almost 4 years ago, where I began working with some of the industry's silent giants.. James House - writer of songs like "Broken Wing" and "Anything for Love", who is now with his own band, The Troubador Kings; Danny Flowers - writer of "Tulsa Time" and "Before Believing"; James Slater - writer of "That's why God made Mexico" and "In my Daughter's eyes", were the first of many to welcome me to Nashville. I love coming home to Nashville. My roots are here now☺ I am currently singing back up for Ronnie Dunn, formerly of Brook’s & Dunn and co-wrote the single called GROWN DAMN MAN with Ronnie Dunn and you can check it out on itunes now… These are a just a couple of things brewing for 2014. Stay tuned……
