Chris Mallett

Chris Mallett is a singer-songwriter and producer who blends acoustic, hip hop, R&B and indie rock elements to craft honest indie pop songs. Chris’ songwriting mission includes honest self-expression and exploring his humanity. Through writing about various sides of his personhood, Chris seeks to convey the multifaceted nature of each of us and challenge the limited perception people have of Black boys and men’s emotional worlds. Chris’ songs have covered topics such as purpose, faith, doubt, loneliness, racism, love, heartache, lust, joy, and fulfillment.

Raised in the Los Angeles area, Chris enjoyed singing at an early age and took years of piano lessons as a child. At 12 years old, Chris started writing his own songs, and at 16 years old, he started teaching himself guitar.

Upon graduating college, Chris teamed up with his dear producer-friend Medisin and recorded his debut album titled Even When I Didn’t Realize (EWIDR). Through EWIDR, Chris tells a coming of age story that culminates with a spiritual revelation. Chris went on to perform the songs from his debut album at open mics and events across Washington, D.C.

After promoting his debut album, Chris began honing in on his skills in recording his own music. His mixtape For the Love of Hathor came out of this work. A concept mixtape rapping and singing of admiration to the Egyptian goddess associated with love, beauty, music, and rejuvenation, the project expanded Chris’ sound further into hip hop and R&B.

An overall musical artist, Chris has proven to be driven to perpetually step outside his comfort zone and avoid being unconfined to a singular genre. Chris sold out his first solo concert at Art of Noize in DC on June 22, 2019. He continues to make music and perform in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
