Chad Boyd Music

Chad Boyd is one of Texas' great low-profile but high-octane troubadours, a prolific songwriter and well-traveled performer carving out time and opportunity to share real-as-it-gets songs about the life he's lived and the lives he's seen along the way. He's never shied away from the full-grown demands and obligations before him, not even for the sake of the song: rather, his day-job tenacity has earned him the right to make his music how and when he wants, and given him an ongoing supply of truths and struggles and victories to weave into his lyrical tales.

Born in Abilene, Texas and raised in Brownwood, Boyd has a long history of embracing roles many might find daunting in search of a greater reward. He's been a college baseball prospect, served in the Marine Corps on a Scout/Sniper platoon, worked in oilfields and ranches and bars where a quick wit and rugged outlook often serves one well. Learning a few chords and songs on the guitar in his Marine years led to a distinct and indispensible part of his life, though, sparking a hunger to consume and practice the work of great songwriters until he could make his own. His desire to hone his craft led to a couple of years at South Plains College in Levelland, learning the finer points of making music both in the classroom and from the Panhandle bar gigs he'd pick up on the side, opening for some of the legends and heavy hitters touring through town.

Though a deep-rooted sense of duty has kept him busy throughout his adult life - especially since becoming a husband and father in 2017 - Boyd has always managed to make the time to not only write an ever-growing catalog of songs (his one album so far, Bullet from 2008, is well worth the listen but only the tip of the iceberg) but to share them in public from one venue to the next, usually taking the stage barstool-poet style as a solo acoustic performer but often sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with musical compadres old and new to swap songs. Every couple of months a new song enters the rotation among his prized warhorse tales of grit, heartache, work, wanderlust, love and honor. Memories, sweet and otherwise, enhanced by imagination and filtered through years of experience and self-reliance. Stories, with even the ones he made up carrying more truth than many writers can muster. Currently residing in the fertile musical ground of the Texas Hill Country, no matter how deep the roots of his music run, Chad Boyd is ready and willing to pack them in the pickup and take them down the road for all to hear.
