About The Welch Boys

The Welch Boys are a five-member band from Boston, MA. They were formed in 2004 by the guitarist, T.J. Welch, a founding member of The Blue Bloods. Other band members include Ed Lalli on vocals (who also plays guitar for Boston hardcore legends Slapshot), Mark Powers on bass, P.J. Dionne on lead guitar, and Ron Holbrook on drums. They are influenced by a wide variety of punk and hardcore music.

The Welch Boys write short, catchy, and powerful songs that emphasize sing along choruses and aggressive guitar playing. They have a sound that is firmly rooted in the punk/hardcore legacy of their hometown, yet unique enough to set themselves apart from comparisons to any other specific artists. Lyrically, they tackle a wide variety of subjects that convey the struggles of working class life. There is an underlying core of hope and optimism to be heard in their anthemic compositions.

The band released a fifteen song debut CD, working with the legendary Jim Siegel (Dropkick Murphys, Blood For Blood, The Ducky Boys, and Darkbuster) at the Outpost Studio in Stoughton, Massachusetts. The Welch Boys was released in the United States on Sailor's Grave Records and in Europe on I Scream Records.

In the summer of 2006, Ron Holbrook left the band, leaving the drum position empty. Mike Mahoney (from Over The Edge and ex-Blood For Blood) took over on drums for 5 shows until the fall of 2006. Steve Maffeo joined the band in late 2006 and is currently holding down the drums for the band.
