Rhiannon Giddens

The show was fabulous. Very deep and moving. I will buy the CD for my car and read the offerings on the Silk Road Ensemble website. Sorry to learn about Ms. Giddens struggles with her voice on this fabulous tour.

I'm a musician and a lover of music in my late 70s, I've been to the Newport Folk Festival and NOLA Jazzfest. I've listened to Muddy Waters in blues clubs, Jimi Hendrix and Joplin on the big state, Bonnie Raitt and Brandi Carlisle close up, Mavis Staples, Habib Koite and Toumani Diabate. This was the best show I've experienced in my life. The venue, the live sound- both fabulous, but more than that Rhiannon Giddens' consummate musicianship and deeply moving performance, the outstanding virtuosity and teamwork of her band- both as individuals and together, the variety of music, the clear shining joy of the band as a team, and her SINGING. I feel like a bell that has been rung and will ring for a long time.

Rhiannon’s freedom, storytelling, didactic and vivacious spirit were captivating for the hour and forty-five minutes or so, plus encore across genre. AND the musicians!! OMG Solid performances and entertainment!

Superb. Great singing and musicianship . Ms. Giddens has a great voice, a penchant for resurrecting old tunes, a fount of information on racial music history and a great band. It did not hurt that the great Tai Mahal showed up for a few tunes that rocked the house. Charly Lowry opened the show with just hand drum and bones, and a fine strong voice. Definitely worth following her career. A great uplifting show. Go See Ms. Giddens. SheworShe is more than worth your time.

Exceptional. I’ve listened to her albums for several years. This is the first time I’ve seen her live and it was better than expected. Charly Lowry who opened also had a great voice.

I love the work of Rhiannon Giddens, her music and the process behind it, but the person is even more beautiful and interesting. She exudes who she is. Her team of talented musicians are also very interesting and I am glad she gave them a large place. A great experience with real people believing in what they do.

Missed Rhiannon’s beautiful voice and at the end, we learned how hard a year she had with that voice. My heart went out to her totally + completely. It was a night of interesting and unusual music, most of which I loved. I especially loved her energy + dancing with Pure. So much love!

Great show. Rhiannon was amazing as always, and her band is excellent. It was my first time at The Clarice Smith center and I was impressed. It’s a very nice space with an intimate feel and good acoustics.

Fantastic: my first time to see her live. She and her group are so talented and skilled the show was wonderful. There was a problem: I sat in the balcony. The sound system does not adequately support the artist. Giddens and her group had little problem; however, the opener, Aida Victoria, is a quiet voiced performer who was very difficult to hear. Most of her non-musical presentations were not understood.

Rhiannon is an american treasure. Her vocals are outstanding, incredibly talented song writer and such an important part of our history & future. The concert had you thinking, singing, crying and dancing! It was an amazing evening!

I was just amazed at the range of her voice. Her Voice is equal to another instrument. Which brings us to that beautiful fretless banjo, guitar and fretless violin. She is a master of them all. Beautiful ❤

Fascinating, intelligent- would have happily stayed for the symposium on the crossovers from African to American and European musics. And the tambourine solo was something else... want to see video close up of that!

It was a really amazing show. The crowd was a little bit weird, but it was a bunch of white upper class liberals. I really enjoyed when she made them uncomfortable talking about reality of history. I really enjoyed the show.

If you saw Rhiannon with the Chocolate Drops and feel like you know what to expect so you might as well save your ticket money then you my friend are missing out. Her current band is phenomenal the keyboard/mandolin/Guitar/back up singer is a star in his own right. Seeing her with her sister (who can sing her ass off) was something special. Her Drummer showed a level of finesse that made me appreciate the drum kit as a whole in a totally different way. And Rhiannon is just hitting her stride. She sings and plays like some of us talk. It’s just natural and engaging. All in all I am a guy that has seen a lot of people play and last night’s performance is in my top three. If you are interested enough to find and read this review then buy the best seats you can afford and enjoy the show.

She is awesome. I like her style. I would see her again if the opportunity presented itself. The whole band, including the warmup duo, Jake and Tatiana were great. So much talent!

Rhiannon is magic! A consummate performing artist and virtuoso with the voice of an angel, she endears herself completely to her audience. She is Billie, Odetta, Ella, Aretha, Janis—rolled into one elegant and soulful musician. She is on a mission with her music and her voice is needed now more than ever in these troubled times. Like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, Phil Ochs and all those who follow in their footsteps, she is on the Freedom Highway, pleading with each of us to join her in her journey.

Great performance. Second time I've seen Rhiannon Giddens in concert, and she was just as amazing the second time around. Really engaging with the audience, lots of good stories and context for the songs. Can't wait to see her again soon.

Brilliant concert by some insanely talented musicians. Giddens is able to conjure up ghosts from the past and bring them to life on stage, from protest songs of the American South through to Celtic traditional music. A must see if she is playing near you.
