About Gabe Rupe
Colorado-born Bassist, Gabe Rupe, was born in Boulder and grew up in Denver, and found his voice in the Denver Jazz scene. Throughout his time as a musician, Gabe has won multiple awards of excellence for his playing. Gabe was selected for the 2016 Vail Jazz All-Stars, the 2016 Telluride Jazz All-Stars, the 2017 Jazz Band of America, the 2017 Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and was chosen as the 2017 YoungArts finalist in Jazz-Double Bass. After graduating High School, Gabe went on to take the role as bassist in the acclaimed Brubeck Institute.
During the 8 years that Gabe has been playing, he has been fortunate enough to get to perform with and learn from a variety of artists including Eric Gunnison, Brad Goode, Paul Romaine, Shane Endsley, and Greg Gisbert. Gabe cites his main living influences as John Clayton and Christian McBride, although his appreciation for bass extends farther back to such greats as Milt Hinton, Scott LaFaro and Ray Brown. Gabe appreciates jazz because it is a language as much as it's a history and culture. He feels jazz is a microcosm of the story of the United States and a complete reflection of the human experience. Gabe is excited to share his music with the world and do everything in his power to continue one of the greatest art forms ever created: Jazz.
