About Thompson Egbo Egbo

Thompson Egbo Egbo
Acclaimed Toronto pianist, composer, and bandleader Thompson Egbo-Egbo has built a reputation for creating music that is both deeply sophisticated and emotionally immediate. Thompson began playing piano at six years old and has since developed a signature sound rooted in groove, lyricism, community, and connection.
On October 23rd, Thompson releases his highly anticipated new album, Just A Thought, a deeply personal body of work exploring transition, reflection, joy, rebirth, and optimism. The record captures an artist evolving in real time, balancing vulnerability with confidence, and stretching beyond genre boundaries while remaining grounded in the improvisational spirit of jazz. Following years of acclaimed live performances and collaborative projects, Just A Thought represents Thompson’s most mature and expansive statement to date.
Known for reimagining familiar material through a fresh lens, Thompson’s interpretation of Smells Like Teen Spirit became a standout moment in his live shows, connecting audiences across generations and musical backgrounds alike. That same spirit of reinvention has defined his recorded catalogue, including The Offering and A New Standard, both released through MNRK Music Group. His work has challenged expectations of the modern jazz trio while incorporating influences ranging from Radiohead to Bob Dylan and Laura Mvula.
Beyond the stage, Thompson is deeply committed to arts education, mentorship, and community impact. He previously served on the boards of Dixon Hall, Artscape, and JAZZ.FM91, and currently serves in advisory capacities for several arts and community organizations. Through the The Thompson T. Egbo-Egbo Arts Foundation and its Evolving Through the Arts program, he works to provide underserved youth with access to music and arts education, mentorship, and creative development opportunities.
A graduate of Humber College and Berklee College of Music, Thompson’s career has included collaborations with internationally recognized artists, recording projects for sync and film, and portraying Oscar Peterson in a Historica Canada Heritage Minute. Whether performing in intimate clubs, concert halls, festivals, or community spaces, Thompson brings an unmistakable energy and emotional honesty to every performance.
At the heart of it all is connection. Music that doesn’t just impress audiences, but moves them.

What fans are saying
I already submitted a brief review, but I'll repeat a bit here. Egbo Egbo was excellent as always, and I really enjoyed the playing of both the guitarist and drummer, as well. The library room was far too warm, however, and I think both the trio and the audience suffered from that. A real shame for them to have had to play in that heat. They were quite wonderful anyway!
